Apple isn’t likely to launch its iPhone 5 successor until the fall, but numerous leaks have already painted a picture of what we may expect. The most recent tips to come from the rumor mill reveal what claims to be the iPhone 5S’ aluminum chassis along with a list of purported specs.
The image depicts a crate of aluminum chassis wrapped in plastic, which suggests the prototypes are ready to be shipped to the next production phase. These components look nearly identical to the White & Silver aluminum chassis found on the current iPhone 5, and a second image provides a close-up view of the chassis’ internal grooves and rear shell.
The photos, which originally appeared on Chinese website EXPReview, were accompanied by a list of purported specs as well. According to the Asian blog, the iPhone 5S will come with a 4-inch IGZO display panel with an 1136 x 640-pixel resolution, which is the same touch screen you’ll find on the current iPhone 5. This conflicts with earlier reports that suggested Apple is experimenting with larger 4.7-inch and 5.7-inch displays for future iPhones, although it hasn’t been made clear which devices these screens would be intended for. According to the leak, Apple fans can expect a dedicated quad-core GPU in the next iPhone iteration, as well as NFC capabilities.

The iPhone 5’s 8-megapixel camera performed well in terms of image quality during our Smartphone Camera Shootout, but new features such as dual-flash LED and slow-motion mode could give Apple more of an edge against today’s newer smartphones.
China Times reports that Taiwanese chip firm Chipbond has been asked to provide components for Apple's upcoming smartphone, including chips that will support NFC and fingerprint sensor. If it's true, it's about time, since all Android devices and every new BlackBerry and Windows Phone now have NFC.However, if Apple really embraces NFC, we'd have to wonder how it will affect Passbook, the companies current solution for mobile payments.
Mobile security firm AuthenTec was acquired by Apple last year, and rumors say that the firm is cutting off its fingerprint sensor customers this year, making Apple its only customer. KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who's a respected voice in Apple speculation, said he also thinks a fingerprint sensor will be present in the iPhone 5S.
