Alleged 4.7-Inch iPhone 6 Model's Rear Shell Leaked in High-Res Images

Apple's next generation iPhone, which is expected to be called the iPhone 6 and has been the subject of numerous leaks, has once again been purportedly leaked in new high-resolution images by a Moscow-based firm which sells modified luxury versions of the iPhone devices.

The bunch of images leaked by Feld and Volk, first reported by MacRumors, claim to show the purported rear shell of the 4.7-inch iPhone 6 model in high-quality images. Notably, the firm has also posted a YouTube video of 1 minute and 24 seconds that shows the unannounced handset's rear shell in full glory.

The new video and images that have surfaced online clearly show the internals of the alleged iPhone 6 rear shell that will include the various components of the device such as the antenna. The new bunch of leaked images from the rear shell of the alleged 4.7-inch iPhone 6 model, while not offering much detail about the rear, do show cut-outs on the purported iPhone - one, for housing the rear camera with flash, and the other, for the Apple logo branding in the middle - which are both in-line with a previous leaks. Some of the leaked images even show black and white-coloured iPhone 6 models with their sides having cut-outs for power and volume rocker buttons, as rumoured for some time now.

In addition, MacRumors cites Feld and Volk claiming Apple has been of late working with the same sapphire suppliers with which the company used to work.

Recently, the battery capacity of the rumoured 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch models were tipped in a leak, and we were also treated with a new YouTube video purportedly showing the alleged iPhone 6's display, claimed to be made of sapphire material, being tested.

While the tech world is expecting Apple's next generation iPhone to come in 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch display models, based on the numerous consistent leaks, a whole new set of rumours from China indicates the battery sizes of the two variants.

According to the Chinese website Sohu, the alleged 4.7-inch iPhone 6 will pack a battery capacity between 1800mAh and 1900mAh, while the larger 5.5-inch version iPhone 6 (rumoured iPhone Air) will pack a 2500mAh battery.

As the rumour mill is churning out new iPhone 6 leaks on a daily basis, at this point the , even though this rumour is from China where the device is being manufactured. Last week, a report had suggested a new September 15 launch day for the alleged 4.7 and 5.5-inch iPhone 6 models, while retail availability will begin on September 25. It had also claimed that the name of the larger 5.5-inch iPhone 6 variant will be called the iPhone Air.

Reportedly, China will also be amongst the first countries to receive the iPhone. The report also details the pricing, which matches previous leaks, claiming the 4.7-inch iPhone 6 (32GB) will cost CNY 5,288 (roughly Rs. 50,800), while the 5.5-inch iPhone 6 (16GB) will be priced at CNY 5,998 (roughly Rs. 57,600).

On Friday, an alleged leaked video was circulated over the internet showcasing the alleged iPhone 6 front panels with curved edges.

The video also compared the front glass panels of the alleged 4.7-inch iPhone 6 model sporting thinner bezels to the current iPhone 5s with slightly broad bezels. In the video, the uploader is seen comparing the single hand experience on the iPhone 5s and the unannounced 4.7-inch iPhone 6.

According to another report from Chinese website Ithome, Apple's iPhone manufacturer Foxconn will allegedly use some 10,000 robots named 'Foxbots' into its assembly line process for the iPhone 6 production.

The company is currently in the final testing stages of the robots and each robot will manufacture 30,000 iPhone 6 smartphones, said Hon Hai Group's CEO Terry Gou at the annual shareholders meeting, according to the report. Gou also informed that each 'Foxbot' is dedicated to this project will cost $20,000 to $25,000, and the company has no plans of selling them.

Apple hires Tag Heuer executive ahead of iWatch launch

Apple has reportedly hired the sales director of luxury Swiss watch maker TAG Heuer to help promote its forthcoming iWatch, which is expected to launch in October.

The appointment was announced by Jean-Claude Biver, head of watchmaking at global luxury conglomerate LVMH, which owns TAG Heuer. Biver told CNBC that the watchmaker's vice president for sales, Patrick Pruniaux, left last week "to take a contract with Apple". He did not say what the new job would be.

A TAG Heuer spokeswoman told Reuters that Pruniaux "was probably head-hunted". Apple declined to comment.

Pruniaux is not the first executive from the luxury sector to be appointed by Apple in recent months. Burberry ex-chief executive Angela Ahrendts started as its new head of retail and online sales in May, and former head of French fashion brand Yves Saint Laurent Paul Deneve was hired last year to work on special projects.

The hirings hint at Apple's growing interest in the wearable technology sector, which is expected to be worth $8.3bn (£4.9bn) by 2018. The company is rumoured to be developing an 'iWatch' to rival Samsung's Galaxy Gear.

Apple's Big Innovation At WWDC: Letting Apps Talk To Each Other

If the technology community was hoping for new innovations from Apple AAPL +0.66% at its annual WWDC keynote on Monday, they’ll find as much of it in the dull, backend infrastructure to iOS 8 apps as they will in the cool stuff consumers see everyday.

Apple seemed to borrow heavily from other popular services like Dropbox and WhatsApp to enhance the consumer-facing features it had in Mail and iMessage. In fact, WhatsApp co-founder Jan Koum sarcastically used the hashtag #innovation when he tweeted today that he was “flattered” to see Apple using so many features that were just like the ones on his service.

Are Apple’s newest features copycat catch-ups?

Two of the most important features:

1) App Extensions – this feature lets apps interact with each other without compromising their users’ security, essentially acting like plug-ins, or “extensions” to other native services. That way when a user installs an app that has an extension, they can interact with the app while running other apps — for instance using a photo editing app within Photos, Apple’s default photo gallery.

2) Widgets – Apple is showing some newfound openness by sharing slices of real estate on native services like the Safari browser and Siri to third-party apps. Today’s demo showed how an app like ESPN could display the latest scores on  the iPhone’s notifications dashboard, while song recognition app Shazam could plug into Siri so that users could buy a song directly through the iPhone’s virtual assistant.

To consumers these might sound like minor tweaks, but developers say they could be the answer to their growing “discovery” problem – where with more than 800,000 apps available for iOS it’s becoming harder and harder to get noticed by customers.

It also feeds into a trend already in play with other tech companies like Facebook and messaging platform Layer, which are creating back-end platforms that work in the background to enable app-to-app communication.Facebook for instance, recently offered tools to app developers like analytics, identifiers and push notifications that allowed them to link with one another.  Rather than be a gateway to these apps, it seems that Facebook wants to become the fabric that binds them.

Apple seems to have a similar strategy in play, while offering apps a greater prospect of scale. “You can create a utility that can be used across the operating system,” said Nick D’Aloisio, who won an Apple design award today for his app, Yahoo YHOO +0.74% News Digest. The service would have come in handy with D’Aloisio’s first app, Trimmit, which automatically summarized text that people were reading in Safari or other apps. “They would have to close that, and opened another app. I was craving this feature for years.” Extensions and widgets were “two new categories here of services that didn’t exist before today,” he added.

It’ll be months before these feature are implemented on iPhone apps, but the result might be more multitasking within apps, and much less closing and re-opening.

This idea of multitasking occurs again with Apple’s new Interactive Notification feature, revealed today. When a user gets a text while in the middle of an iPhone game, they can pull down a tab to reply without closing the game. “You don’t have to leave the app,” said Apple’s software VP Craig Federighi, who demonstrated on Monday how users could also “like” a Facebook notification from within an app.

Extensions and widgets could give apps more exposure to more people, but it’s unclear how developers would make money from what are essentially plug-ins to other apps and Apple services. There’s likely no cut of ad revenue for Apple to share since it doesn’t show ads in native services like Photos or Siri.

Apple may simply argue that greater exposure through extensions will translate to more downloads if a service is good enough.

iOS 8 Beta 3 release date next week - July 8; Apple rolls out iOS 7.1.2

The iOS 8 Beta 3 is set to arrive in developers' hands on July 8, according to reports.

Apple is set to release the third beta version of the new iOS 8 next week. The two previous beta versions were released on June 2 and 17, respectively. Reports added that the upcoming beta version will be the final beta update of the mobile software before it will release the official version of the iOS in the fall.

iOS 8 Beta 3 includes updates and fixes from the previous version. The beta versions are meant for developers to develop or update their apps to run smoothly to the new iOS.

Apple provided a preview of the new iOS 8 last month at the Worldwide Developers' Conference (WWDC) and the new OS is bound to arrive in the fall.

Some of the software features included in the new iOS are updates to the photos, iMessage and the keyboard applications. The search function, Spotlight, and iCloud will also be improved. iOS 8 will also pack the much awaited Health application to manage the health information of the user such as heart monitor, BMI and track medications.

However, there are some users who were itching to run their devices to the new OS, which is not advisable since the OS is still in testing stage and users may come across bugs and issues that may cause the breakdown of their devices, especially if they are not tech savvy to save their units.

Meanwhile, Apple is currently rolling out the iOS 7.1.2, which brings bug fixes and security updates. The software update also fix issues on iBeacon connectivity and stability, data transfer for some 3rd party accessories, including bar code scanners, and data protection class of Mail attachments.

With most of the Android big-hitters out of the way the path is clear for Apple’s iPhone 6 to stomp all over the latter part of the year.

A new iPhone always generates a tremendous amount of excitement but this time around it looks like Apple could be making a lot of changes, making it more exciting and intriguing than ever. At this stage it’s all rumour of course, so nothing’s set in stone, but there’s a whole lot to go on and most of it sounds very promising indeed.

Release date and price

The last few iPhone’s have all been launched in September and there’s no reason to think that the new one will be any different, but if you want evidence then how about the fact that according toifun.de German Apple store employees are having limitations put on their holiday time in September, which certainly suggests a big launch of some kind.

As for the price there’s no word on that yet, but given that the RRP for the iPhone 5S starts at £549 we’d be surprised if it’s any cheaper than that. In fact it may well be more expensive, if rumours about some of the changes such as the increased screen size turn out to be true, but we’d be surprised if Apple let the starting price go above £600.

Display

One of the biggest changes we’re expecting to see in the iPhone 6 is a larger screen. So far Apple has kept the screens on the small side, with the iPhone 5S coming in at just 4 inches. That suits a lot of people fine but the wider smartphone market is finding great success in larger screen sizes and Apple seems to want to get in on that.

It’s rumoured that the new handset may in fact come in at two different size points. There’ll be the main iPhone 6 which is thought to have a 4.7 inch display and then there may also be a phablet sized device with either a 5.5 or 5.7 inch screen. Just about every leak regarding the iPhone 6 has pointed to a larger screen, so we’re almost certain that we’ll see one.

With increased size we’re also expecting an increased resolution. Exactly what resolution that will be isn’t known for sure but we’ve also heard that Apple has been testing a 1704 x 960 display, which would allow the device to keep the same aspect ratio while increasing the resolution.

That’s still not quite full HD, but on a 4.7 inch iPhone it will lead to a pixel density of 416 pixels per inch, while the 5.5 inch phablet would be looking at 355 pixels per inch, both of which are higher than the current 326ppi retina display standard.

So the iPhone 6 screen will probably be bigger and higher resolution, but it may also be a lot stronger. Apple has bought up vast quantities of Sapphire Crystal glass, a material which is far stronger than the glass currently used in phone screens. However it’s also a lot more expensive, so we’re not entirely convinced it will be used for screens as big as the iPhone 6 one, because doing so would likely drive the price way up. Our money is on it being used for the iWatch instead, but you never know.

Design

Given that the iPhone 6 will likely have a bigger screen than its predecessor it’s logical to assume that it will also have a bigger body. The exact dimensions aren’t known, but a design schematic leaked to Macotakara suggests that it will be 66m wide (the iPhone 5S is 58.6mm wide). However it also claims that the iPhone 6 will be just 7mm thick, making it slimmer than the 7.6mm iPhone 5S.

As well as being super slim it’s thought that the iPhone 6 will have a curved design, more in line with the 3GS than the 5S.

Power

The iPhone 5S has a dual-core Apple A7 processor, so we’re expecting the iPhone 6 to have an A8 processor. The number of cores may go up as well, with rumours suggesting we could be in for a quad-core handset.

However whether dual or quad-core it’s thought that Apple will be more focussed on providing efficiency in order to improve the battery life than on delivering massive performance boosts.

Little has been said about the RAM. The iPhone 5S only has 1GB so we’d be surprised if the iPhone 6 has more than 2GB and there may be no increase at all given that the 5S doesn’t seem to have any problems running well on that little RAM. But even if it does stick with 1GB it might be faster, as industry watcher Matt Margolis reckons that Apple is going to switch to faster LPDDR4 DRAM.

Camera

There have been various conflicting rumours surrounding the iPhone 6’s camera. We’ve heard talk of a 13 megapixel sensor but the most prevalent rumours point to Apple sticking with an 8 megapixel one.

That doesn’t mean the camera won’t be getting better though. There have been reports that Apple will be both upping the pixel size, to allow more light in and including Electronic Image Stabilisation, to minimise the effects of camera shake. So expect a refined but not revolutionised camera.

Features

The iPhone 6 is obviously going to run iOS 8, especially now that the software has been announced and it’s also a safe bet that it will come with Touch ID and a motion co-processor just like the iPhone 5S.

But we might see some new features too. It’s unlikely that any of these will be as substantial as the aforementioned ones, but it looks like the iPhone 6 might include NFC as various sources suggest as much.

It’s also possible that the iPhone 6 might support wireless charging, as Apple has filed a patent regarding the technology. This is less likely though as Apple files all sorts of patents and they often don’t turn into anything.

Those thinking about buying an iPhone in the next few months are going to face some tough decisions. For some, it will be choosing between the iPhone 5s or Apple’s 2014 iPhone, currently dubbed iPhone 6. While the iPhone 6 is still shrouded in a whole lot of mystery, we want to take a look at how the rumored device is progressing next to the iPhone 5s, Apple’s current iPhone.

Every year, Apple releases a new iPhone. In the case of last year, it was iPhones as the company debuted not one, but two new iPhone models to take on the likes of Android and Windows Phone. The iPhone 5c is the company’s plastic budget option. The iPhone 5s represents the company’s flagship model and the one that attracts the most attention. And while the iPhone 5s is the company’s flagship for the time being, there will come a time when it passes the torch.

Rumor has it, the iPhone 5s could be relinquishing the top spot as early as this summer, and it’s those rumors, and others, that have prospective smartphone shoppers on edge.

For weeks, we’ve been asked the same questions by family and friends: “Should I buy the iPhone 5s or wait for the iPhone 6?” “When is the iPhone 6 coming out?” “What will the differences be?” While we can’t answer those questions exactly, we can offer those with similar questions a look at how the iPhone 6 currently stacks up with the iPhone 5s.

Here, we do just that. While the iPhone 6 and its upcoming release date are still moving parts, we feel like we have enough information to make some comparisons in a few key areas this early. So here, we take a look at how the rumored iPhone 6 is currently matching up with Apple’s current iPhone, the iPhone 5s.

Release Date

While the iPhone 6 isn’t as exposed as the Samsung Galaxy S5, there are still some very credible rumors that allow us to start painting a picture of the device, comparing it to the iPhone 5s. Maybe the most important piece of information that smartphone shoppers seek in the early days is the release date.

Well, iPhone 6 rumors across the board point to a release either in the summer or the fall. This makes sense because Apple always announces, and releases, its new iPhone either in the summer or the fall. The company has not released a new iPhone in the summer since the iPhone 4 all the way back in June of 2010.

The Wall Street Journal claims Apple is preparing two iPhone 6 models with larger screens and that the smaller one is, “further along in development, and is being prepared for mass production,” while the larger iPhone 6 is in, “preliminary development,” according to the sources. This could explain why we’ve heard rumors that point to one iPhone release this summer with another in the fall.

Still, specific dates remain out of reach, and they likely will remain out of reach until much later in the year. Specific iPhone release date rumors typically don’t emerge until a few weeks prior to launch.

So, if these rumors are dead on and there is likely some truth to them, the earliest we’ll see a new iPhone is this summer and the latest that we’ll see an iPhone 6 is the fall. In other words, the iPhone 5s has quite a bit of life left in the tank. It also means that those who decide to wait will likely be waiting for several months.

Design

The iPhone 5s kept the same design as the iPhone 5 like ‘S’ iPhone models tend to do. However, this year’s iPhone is expected to be an iPhone 6 and Apple always changes the design with the numbered version of its iPhone. We saw it change after the iPhone 3GS launch with the iPhone 4. And we saw it changes after the iPhone 4s launch with the iPhone 5.

The iPhone 5s is one of the lightest, thinnest smartphones on the market thanks to its 7.6mm frame that weighs a mere 112 grams. Its industrial design also makes it feel like a piece of $200 hardware.

We haven’t heard too much about the iPhone 6 design but it’s reasonable to think that Apple will make some design tweaks. Just how much different the design will be is up for debate.

According to a Wall Street Journal report the iPhone 6 will use the same anodized aluminum material. A 9to5Mac report recently revealed that Apple is fast tracking the output from the Sapphire factory that it invested in during 2013. This points to the possible use of Sapphire with this year’s iPhone. Sapphire is a strong material that could be used with the iPhone 6′s display, making it nearly impossible to break.

Reports also suggest that the iPhone 6 will come with a larger display. If that’s the case, we could see a new design with thinner bezels and a new look that helps Apple keep the overall size of the iPhone down, even with the addition of a larger screen. A recent report from LEDInside of TrendForce claims that the iPhone 6 will be thinner than Apple’s previous iPhone models thanks to a shift from 0.6 mm thick LED backlights to backlights that are just 0.4 mm thick. It’s not clear how much thinner the iPhone 6 is expected to be.

At the moment, the differences are tough to gauge, but it does appear that the iPhone 6 could take design cues from the iPhone 5s, could feature a more durable screen in front, and offer a larger but thinner form factor.

Display

It’s not set in stone but it’s looking like the iPhone 6 will offer a larger screen than the 4-inch Retina display found on the iPhone 5s. Sources can’t agree on a screen size just yet, likely because Apple is still testing prototypes, but they do offer a pretty specific window that Apple is working with for its next iPhone.

We could see two iPhone 6 models with a larger screen sizes in 2014.

The Wall Street Journal believes the company will deliver a 4.5-inch and a 5+-inch iPhone 6. NPD DisplaySearch believes that two iPhone 6 models with higher resolution displays will be coming in 2014. A KDB Daewoo Securities report uncovered by OLED-Display includes two iPhone 6 display sizes. Ming-Chi Kuo of KGI Securities, who accurately predicted many iPhone 5s features, thinks Apple is planning an iPhone 6 with a screen between 4.5-inches and 5-inches.

The biggest differences from the iPhone 5s would include the change in processor. The iPhone 5s utilizes a 64-bit A7 chip and an upgrade to a new A8 would likely offer even better performance. Apple’s current iPhone uses 1GB of RAM so an increase in RAM would also help be key to areas like multitasking and gaming.

The latest Apple iPhone 6 rumors suggest an improved camera with a f1.8 aperture.

There is also chatter about an improved camera. Apple always improves its iPhone cameras year after year and this year’s camera will supposedly be an improved 8MP camera or a 10MP camera.

Another big change could be the inclusion of 802.11ac Wi-Fi. Timothy Arcuri of Cowen and Company claims that the iPhone 6 specs are “locked in” and that 802.11ac will be on board. This is a feature that enables faster Wi-Fi speeds and it’s a feature that is currently found on Apple’s new Mac lineup.

Software

iOS 8 will almost certainly be the software that debuts with the iPhone 6 and from the looks of things, it’s not going to be another major overhaul to the iOS operating system.

According to 9to5Mac, the iOS 8 update will not bring a lot of visual changes. Instead, it will pave the way for health and fitness tracking. Apple is working on an app code named Healthbook which may connect with sensors in an iPhone 6 or iWatch to help users track and manage a number of things including steps taken and calories burned.

It’s not clear whether or not the iPhone 6 will boast any unique features though it would not be surprising to see Apple tailor some of its apps for the larger display.

One thing that we should note is that when and if iOS 8 arrives, it will be the first major iOS update for the iPhone 5s which debuted with iOS 7 back in September. What this means is that iOS 8 will serve as a strike for the iPhone 5s. Apple tends to give devices three years of support before killing it off and that should mean a longer life for iPhone 6. That’s something prospective buyers need to keep in mind.

iPhone 6 Price

Chris Caso of Susquehanna Financial Group thinks the price of the iPhone 6 could jump up from the iPhone 5s. Caso says that his firm sees ” the potential for the iPhone 6 price point to move higher,” adding, “we think Apple could get away with a $50 to $100 premium for a larger screen size iPhone 6.” Apple’s iPhone 5s starts at $199.99 on-contract.

Thus far, this is the only iPhone 6 price rumor that we’ve seen. However, it does make sense. Apple could perhaps shift the iPhone 5s to $99, introduce a 4.5 to 4.8-inch iPhone 6 at $199 on contract and a larger than 5-inch model at $249 or $299 on contract. That’s just speculation but it makes sense given Samsung’s pricing for its Galaxy S and Galaxy Note.

How to get $50 off the iPhone 6 and Galaxy S5, even though they don’t exis

The iPhone 6 and Galaxy S5 smartphones, which are going to battle for the attention of high-end handset buyers this year, aren’t even official yet and a price discount is already available for both phones, as well as many other unannounced handsets. To secure the discounts, however, interested buyers will have to act fast.

Best Buy on Thursday announced a new promotion that will get you $50 off any mobile device this year. The deal clearly states that “any phone” is covered, which means flagship devices that are going to be unveiled in the coming months will also be covered.

What users will have to do is to register their interest to purchase a new phone this year with Best Buy at any time between February 2nd and February 15th. Then, until December 31st, 2014, users will be able to purchase and activate any smartphone model with a two-year contract on AT&T, Sprint or Verizon at Best Buy or Best Buy Mobile stores to get a $50 Best Buy gift card that can be applied to the phone purchase.

The bad news is that the deal is available only to current carrier subscribers, so new lines and new phone numbers are not eligible for the offer. Furthermore, T-Mobile is not included in the promotion, most likely because the carrier doesn’t have mandatory two-year contract requirements with new phone purchases.

The good news, at least for those customers that plan to purchase a new subsidized smartphone this year anyway – be it an iPhone 6, Galaxy S5, HTC One 2, LG G3, next Nexus or anything else hot that’s coming – is that upgrades and port-in activations qualify for the offer. Furthermore, when signing up for it, users can register mobile numbers for up to four extra family members on a family plan.

Furthermore, Best Buy’s offer won’t lock you into a mandatory purchase. In case a new phone isn’t purchased by the end of the year, the deal simply goes away, and users won’t have to pay any penalty for having applied for it.
