Apple updates low-price, education-only iMac.
Apple has updated its budget iMac model available only to educational institutions with some new specs. It's not a major leap, but it does bring the new design and a few helpful features to schools looking to upgrade. MacRumors first noticed the change.
The new 21.5-inch education iMac has the same type of processor as the old one, but has gotten a bump from 3.1 to 3.3 GHz. It also doubles the RAM and hard drive space of its predecessor, with 4GB and 500GB respectively. The on-board Intel HD 4000 graphics aren't going to run the latest games, but they should handle video and image editing just fine.
Also added are USB 3.0 and Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity, and a Thunderbolt port in case anyone needs it. Total price: $1,099, which is $100 more than the old version, but the upgrades are worth at least that.

If that sounds like a good deal to you as an individual, you're probably out of luck. These are very much restricted to educational buyers — schools, universities, and the like. Besides, for $200 more, the entry-level iMac has better specs all around.
