iPhone 5S: Rumours on new specs, increased speed and motion tracking features

iPhone 5 - but what will the iPhone 5S look like?
Apple

We told you last week that the iPhone 5S is expected to be announced on September 10 , possibly alongside a lower cost plastic handset dubbed the iPhone C, making it a direct rival of the third generation of the Samsung Note.

There is now new information coming in, suggesting that the iPhone 5S will feature technology that tracks your eye movement.

And with the latest developments from Samsung, this was not an unexpected move from Apple.

US technology reporter Clayton Morris tweeted: "I've heard there’s a separate chip devoted to motion tracking. Should be an interesting camera upgrade."

It would appear that the unknown chip would be part of the iPhone's camera package.

Apple owns a number of patents regarding eye motion tracking, including "gaze detection."

Gaze detection means the phone can tell when you're not looking at the screen, and will dim the brightness accordingly.

This "motion tracking" will be used to bring another layer of user interactivity to Apple's flagship handset.

Morris also said that the iPhone 5S will sport a significantly faster "A7" processor.

The A7 system is some 31 percent faster than the current A6 silicon used in the iPhone 5.

The iPhone 5S - which is rumoured to be coming out in gold as well as black and white - is also expected to use the iOS 7, have a Retina+ Sharp IGZO display and a 13MP camera with a dual LED flash.
