The Google Outage Heard Around the World

Yesterday, Google had a little problem. More than a little problem, actually. It was first noticed with Gmail, but then nearly all other Google services went dark. Hangouts, Google Docs, Calendars, Voice, Talk, Google+, and many more went down for nearly half an hour. Google was able to get the services up and running, but they started out slowly. For many people, it was a reminder on how much they rely on Google services. It was an especially big issue for Android users, as Google services are deeply integrated into the operating system.
The services are back on, but it has reminded many of the old saying "don't put all your eggs in one basket". Google may have many services, and have a lot of your data, but that doesn't mean users shouldn't branch out and differentiate the services they use. For future reference, you can find Google's App Status Dashboard here. Yesterday, it was slow to show the issue, however, it's since been updated to show the outage.
